So I am thrilled that I received a sewing machine for Christmas this year! However, it has been since 6th grade that I have actually sewing something. It has taken some time to get back in the swing of using the machine again. I am not one to be reading directions much I am a visual person especially when it comes to putting something together.
What I have learned so far in sewing that being a visual person is not so much in your favor… You have to measure, make you lines straight, thread the machine, again and again… Ugh,it can be so much work to do ONE thing. I am trying to be patient with it and only working on one thing at a time. I need to learn how not to loose focus. It seems that I contracted A.D.D. and want to move on to the next thing because I am board… Only if I had a whole day with out interruptions, I focus on making something start to finish… Right now I am only making something if my daughter is sitting in her high chair eating puffs while I pin a seam that is like 10 minutes max! Or when everyone goes to bed then I can focus on it more then I look at the clock and it is 1am?!?!? Where does the time go??
I recently got a sewing kit that says you can make this bag in one hour. I was like I can so get this done during nap time. Ha! No way!! It took me a hour just to cut out and fold the seams?!? This is crazy this is suppose to be a simple project and it is like building the Taj-mahal!!!
So far I have made a couple of small projects nothing major. I have been working on a purse, not that I will be will acutally use it… The good old diaper bag will do for now, several burp rags when I say several I mean I have about 10 in various stages some are done and some are waiting for the machine to be threaded with the appropriate color. I would like to make pillows for the couch since our dog enjoys anything on the couch being a blanket or pillow it cannot be something so fancy. Who knows maybe I will get as good as the people on project runway? That may take several more years of course!
Until then I must sew on and pratice! Pratice makes perfect right???
